Customizing a Theme

Layouts define how elements are arranged on a slide. A background is what's behind the layout and may be a solid color, an image, a fill, or a gradient. Together they can make up a theme or format a single slide.

Layouts

1.       Start with a presentation you have permissions to edit the theme. Will get a pop up notifying you if don't have permissions when you go to File > Edit theme.

2.       Click the Layouts button and the slide sorter will show you all of the layouts that were created automatically with your theme.

              a.       You can click on any of the layouts you want to edit by changing the background, adding a transition or adding an element.

              b.      You can click on the + Layout if you'd like to create a new layout.

3.       Click Return to Slides. You will now be prompted to save the changes you've made to the layout and have them apply to the presentation.

4.       Save your changes to update all of the slides in the presentation.

Any edits made to the theme for layouts or backgrounds can only be changed from the Edit theme menu.

ADVANCED NOTE: You may add additional elements (text, pictures, etc.) to your slides on top of the placeholders which are provided in the layouts. Under the Layout Placeholders you have the ability to add page numbers to each slide. When you're editing the presentation the numbers will not show, but when the presentation is played they will.
