Best Practices for Aspect Resolution in SlideRocket

The maximum aspect resolution supported by SlideRocket is 1920x1920. Before building a presentation determine how it will be used. If it is for printing or playing on a large screen, then larger images are better. If the presentation is for embedding into a Website or for viewing on a standard monitor, then smaller images are better because they will load faster and still appear crisp.
The SlideRocket slide canvas dimensions are 800x600 at 100% zoom. When a presentation is played, the canvas is scaled to the resolution of the browser. If the viewer plays in fullscreen, then the resolution will be the resolution of the monitor. Most Assets in SlideRocket are resolution-independent, which means that text, shapes, charts, SWFs, and tables will look sharp even when the canvas is scaled to a higher resolution for playback. Images and videos, however, are not resolution-independent and will retain actual resolution even when scaled down to fit on the 800x600 canvas. So when images and videos are displayed during playback both will appear sharp assuming that the native resolution is sufficient.
For example, if a 1280x1024 image is imported and added to the canvas:
It will be scaled down to 800x600 so that it fills the canvas
If the presentation is played back on a 1280x1024 monitor in fullscreen, the image will still look sharp because its resolution is used
If the presentation is played back on a 1920x1200 monitor, the image will appear slightly blurry because it has to be scaled up from its native 1280x1024 to 1920x1200. Most people do not notice this subtle difference. An 800x600 image or lower resolution image might appear blurry on a 1920x1200 monitor
Any images added to a slide that have a native resolution higher than 800x600 (in either dimension) will be scaled (preserving the original aspect ratio) down to fit the canvas. You can resize back to the native resolution by clicking the Reset Size button in the Image Properties panel.
Our tests have shown that 1280x1024 is a good resolution to use for JPEGs. The images will look sharp on 1920x1200 monitors but are not large enough to impact performance.
ADVANCED NOTE: When the aspect ratio of a slide is changed under File then Presentation Settings, the canvas dimensions are being changed as well. For 16:9 the aspect resolution is 1066x600. For 16:10 the aspect resolution is 960x600. As long as the images match the slide aspect ratio, the images will scale to fill the slide and the same rules for resolution as above apply.
The maximum resolution at which a presentation can be played can be set in the Publish menu.
