Playing a Presentation on the Desktop Presenter

The Desktop Presenter is used for caching presentations for offline playing. When a presentation is cached it can be accessed and played regardless of whether the computer is connected to the Internet.

The Desktop Presenter has two main tabs, the Cached Presentations tab and the Online Presentations tab.

Online Presentations

Viewing and Searching Presentations

There are several ways to view and locate online presentations from within the Desktop Presenter.

    • Sort By: Lets you sort presentation by Name, When Created, When Modified 
    •  View by Thumbnails: Changes the presentation to view by thumbnail 
    •  View by List: Changes the presentation to view by list view
    • Zoom: To change the size of the presentation thumbnails, adjust the slider towards the larger box to zoom in, or slide it towards the smaller square to zoom out
    • Folders: Presentations will be organized in the same folder structure as online
    • Tags: Tags provide a quick search by keyword
    • Searches: Type the title or keyword into the search bar to filter through a list of available presentations. Click the X button found to the right of the search bar to remove the search parameters. Several searches have been provided to quickly search across folders

 

Caching a Presentation

  1. Click the Online Presentations button
  2. Enter your SlideRocket login information
  3. Select the presentation to be cached
  4. Click the Cache Presentation button . The presentation will now appear under the Cached Presentations tab 

 

ADVANCED NOTES:

  • Cached presentations DO NOT automatically update when changes are made to the original in the online Presentation Editor. In order to transfer any changes to the offline version, the presentation must be cached again. The previous-cached version does not need to be deleted prior to caching the updated version. It will automatically be written over by the updated version
  • Users will be alerted if another user has a presentation open in the Presentation Editor online. The presentation will not be accessible until that user signs exits the presentation  

 

Refreshing Presentations

Click the Refresh Presentations button to display the latest version of all presentations found in the users online account. 

 

Cached Presentations

Playing a Presentation

There are 2 ways to play a presentation in the Desktop Presenter.

  1. Select the presentation you want to play and click the Play Presentation tab 
  2. Double-click the presentation you want to play
  3. The presentation will now play in a new window. The navigating and playing buttons are the same as in the online version and are located at the bottom of the screen
    • Click the left arrow button  to move backward and the right arrow button  to move forward in the presentation
    • Click on the slide number  to reveal or hide the SlideSorter. The SlideSorter can be used to jump directly to any slide in the presentation
    • Click the volume button  to turn the sound higher or lower
    • Click the Fullscreen button  to play the presentation in fullscreen mode. Exit Fullscreen mode by pressing the escape key

Using SlideSorter for a Presentation

SlideSorter displays the thumbnails of all slides in the presentation so you can view your entire presentation at a glance. From the SlideSorter rearrange the order of the slides or set one or more slides to skip when the presentation is played.

 

  1. Select the presentation 
  2. Click Show SlideSorter tab  in the top menu
  3. Adjust the size of the thumbnails by dragging the slider in the upper right
  4. Rearrange or skip slides
    • Reorder Slides: The SlideSorter displays thumbnails of the slides within the presentation in the order that they will appear during playback. Reorder the slides by clicking a thumbnail and dragging it to a new location in the SlideSorter
    • Skip Slides: To set a slide to skip during play right-click the slide and select Skip Slide. The skipped slide will remain in the presentation and will display with a white “X” through it in the SlideSorter. Skipped slides will not be shown when the presentation is played. To unskip the slide, right-click and click Skip Slide again
  5. Click Ok

 

ADVANCED NOTES

    • Any reordering of slides or toggling between skip/unskip in the Desktop Presenter will not effect the online version of the presentation. If the presentation is recached, any changes made to the presentation in the Desktop Presenter will be overwritten
    • Select multiple slides in the SlideSorter by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking the slides

 

Clearing Cached Presentations

To clear out cached presentations, click the Clear All Cached Presentations tab . This will not affect original presentations online.
