Builds animate Elements onto a slide and off of a slide. Elements can be set to animate individually or simultaneously with other elements, automatically, or when the slide is clicked. Audio can also be played as part of a build.

There are two types of builds:

  • Build In animates elements onto slide
  • Build Out animates the element off of slide

Build In and Build Out can be mixed to have an element appear, disappear and then a new element appear in its place.

This document covers

Adding a Build to an Element

  1. Select element on slide
  2. Click Animations tab in Element Properties Panel
  3. Click Add Build button

ADVANCED NOTES:

  • Multiple builds can be added to the same element
  • By default, the Fly In Build is applied when a new build is added to an element

Customizing Builds

Once a build is added to an element, the speed, direction, and trigger of the build can be customized. All builds are listed under the Animations tab in the Element Properties Panel and the selected element’s build is highlighted in green. The customization options depend on the type of element and build.

Build Type

Use the pull-down menu to select the preferred Build Type from the following options:

  • Appear
  • Fade
  • Wipe
  • Fly
  • Glow
  • Sparkle
  • Scale
  • Blur
  • Materialize
  • Typewriter
  • FlyZoomSpin

Direction

Use the pull-down menu to set whether the element is animated onto or off of the slide.

  • In: Animates element onto slide canvas
  • Out: Animates element off of slide canvas

Timing

  • Start: Sets how build is triggered
    • Wait for Click: Build starts when mouse is clicked
    • Automatically: Build starts as soon as previous build finishes. If it is first build, it starts as soon as that slide is reached
    • With previous: Build animates at same time as previous build
  • Speed: Sets how many seconds build takes to complete
  • Delay: Sets number of seconds before build starts

Options

Build Options vary by the type of build and element.

  • Direction: Sets direction element enters or leaves slide
  • Color: Opens ColorPicker to select color of build
  • Animate: Sets whether to animate element as a whole or by individual components
  • Spread: Sets delay between animating components of an element
  • Easing: Sets how a build animates to or from its position. Some Easing options only perform when Direction chosen is In (when an element is animated onto a slide canvas)
    • Smooth: Animates build to come to rest smoothly into its position
    • Linear: Animates build straight to or from its position
    • Bounce: Animates build with added bounce to its position and comes to rest
    • Elastic: Animated build with a snapback effect to its position and comes to rest
    • Overshoot: Animates build to overshoot position and comes to rest
    • Really Smooth: Animates build to come to rest very smoothly into its position

Sound

  • Asset
    1. Click Add Audio button  to open Media Library
    2. Select audio file
    3. Click Add Media
    4. Click Delete Audio button  to remove audio file
  • Play at: Sets whether to play audio file at start or end of build
  • Volume: Sets how loud or soft audio file plays

ADVANCED NOTES: If an element is rotated, it will enter from the direction of the rotation.  For example if the element is rotated 90 degrees to the right, the element will enter from the right side of the slide.

Bullets and Builds

There are additional settings around builds applied to bulleted lists and paragraphs. The rules below apply to text boxes, placeholders, and shapes that contain bullets or paragraphs.

Applying Builds by Bullet

Bulleted lists and paragraphs can have separate builds applied to each bullet item or paragraph.

  1. Click Animations tab
  2. Click Timing
  3. Set Delivery to By Bullet
  4. To set different options for each bullet or paragraph, check box Allow separate timings. This will add each bullet or paragraph to build list as a separate build

ADVANCED NOTES

  • If a bulleted list or group of paragraphs is set to build By Bullet, the build number of the next build will be increased by number of bullets or builds in element. For example, if first build is a text box with four bullets set to build in By Bullet (and Allow separate timings is unchecked), next build will show as number 5 even though it is in the second spot
  • If a text box with bullet list contains a fill, then fill will animate in first, followed immediately by the first bullet

Organizing Multiple Builds

To adjust the order builds animate, drag and drop the build into the desired order.

  1. Select element on slide
  2. Click Animations tab
  3. Click highlighted green build
  4. Hold mouse down to drag build
  5. Release mouse to drop build

ADVANCED NOTE: Other builds can be reordered here as well and do not require steps 1 through 3.

Previewing Builds

There are 2 ways to preview how the builds on a slide will play:

  • To see how builds will play just on that slide, click Preview button in build menu
    1. Select element on slide
    2. Click Animations tab
    3. Click Preview
    4. Builds will start playing if set to animate automatically. Builds set to Wait for Click will require user to click mouse or press Enter key
  • To see how builds will play in context of presentation, click Preview button to left of Slide Sorter

ADVANCED NOTE: If there is a large audio file with the build there may be a slight delay because of the time required for the file to load

Deleting Builds

  1. Select element on slide
  2. Click Animations tab
  3. Select build to be deleted from list
  4. Click Delete button
