SlideRocket users can import Audio files from a computer or record narration directly into SlideRocket. Audio can be added to the entire presentation or to individual slides.  Please note that audio files must be in MP3 format to be uploaded into SlideRocket.
Audio can be accessed by clicking the Audio icon  in the Element Toolbar, located on the left-hand side of the canvas, within the Presentation Editor. Changes can also be made to Library Slides and Slide Groups using the Slide Editor. Once added to a slide audio, can be customized.

Recording Audio for a Slide

Users can narrate a slide by recording live audio directly into SlideRocket. The audio will be named with the date and time of recording and then saved in the Media Library. The audio can then be added to additional slides or presentations as well as collaborated with other users in the account. Trial, Pro, and Enterprise users have the ability to record audio.

  2. Click Record button
  3. If this is first time recording audio after logging in, there will be pop-up from Adobe Flash Player asking for permission to access computer microphone. Click Allow to give permission
  4. If the computer has more than one microphone, primary microphone must be selected. Click on microphone tab and select a primary microphone from drop-down menu
  5. Click Start Recording
    • If there are already builds in slide, pop-up will appear asking if you want to synchronize your builds. Click Yes to synchronize builds while recording. Click the mouse each time you would like a build to animate. After recording, all builds will synchronize automatically with audio. Builds can be synchronized again at a later time
  6. Recording will begin after 3-second countdown
  7. When finished, click Stop Recording

ADVANCED NOTES

  • If SlideRocket is unable to pick up any audio during the recording there will be a pop-up alert
  • The maximum amount of time that audio can be recorded for a single slide is approximately 15 minutes
  • After the audio is added, the slide will be set to automatically advance to the next slide when the audio finishes playing
  • Recording audio requires an outgoing connection to TCP port 1935. Windows and Mac OS X system firewalls allow this type of connection by default. If you are behind a corporate firewall, you will need to contact your system administrator if you are unable to record
  • Recorded audio is streamed to a Flash media server using the Speex codec at 16 kHz. It is then transcoded using ffmpeg to a 64kbps MP3 at 16 kHz

Synchronizing Builds to Slide Audio

The Resync builds feature lets the user set when the builds animate during slide audio by clicking the mouse at the desired time. This feature can be used with both recorded and imported audio and is available to Trial, Pro, and Enterprise users.

  1. After audio is added to slide, click Resync builds button
  2. Click Yes
  3. As audio plays click mouse to set when each build will animate

ADVANCED NOTE: Use the slider  to zoom in and out in the visual representation of the audio file. Dragging the slider to the right will increase the space between sound waves.

Previewing Slide Audio

Click Preview button  to hear how audio will play when slide is viewed. Any builds in presentation will animate with audio.

Rachel - I did as you suggested, editing my audio with a free audio editor called FreeAudioDub -- SO easy!

To record the audio, I use an Olympus Digital Audio recorder (only $50 on Amazon - make sure to record in stereo or else anyone listening to your presentation only hears it through one speaker/headphone). The first one I used only allowed playback in WMA format.  I downloaded free Audio converter (Free MP3 WMA Converter) to change the file format to MP3 (that's the only format allowed by SlideRocket) and inserted into my slide.

I then used the "Resync Builds" function to play my audio, and then simply click when I wanted the next build to activate -- enabling perfect synchronization. It was so easy!  Very impressive, as I was planning to manually time the delay intervals for each delay.  Oh, in order to use the "Resync Builds" you will want to already ensure your builds are in the correct sequence.

Instinct Windsports -

I encourage to suggest that in our feature request forum here.  We look to customer requests when deciding which new features to implement.  In the meantime I would recommend recording your audio in an outside program that allows pausing and editing and then importing the finished track into SlideRocket.

I'm not a very fluid speaker so I find narrating a frustrating part....I wish you would have a 'pause recording' button so I can record audio for one slide in a few sessions.  I make lots of mistakes so I have to go back and speak the entire slide again.....that just makes things more frustrating to a verbally challenged person like myself!

Also, to correct mistakes, it'd be nice if you could back up the audio to where it was going well and over-write audio from that point on.

Narelle -

You can import and add audio files to a slide or presentation in the Lite version. If you want to record audio directly into SlideRocket you would need to upgrade to Pro.

I am not happy with the different volume levels from slide to slide.

It would be great if you could normalize the audio like you can on audacity.

What is you solution to the inconsistent audio levels from slide to slide?
